Your logo can go on a frame five different ways, and the choice changes both the look and the price. Here’s how to think about the main decoration methods — with the trade-offs we explain to customers every week.
Full-Color UV Printing
UV printing cures ink directly onto the frame surface with ultraviolet light. Modern lines print up to six colors in one pass, including gradients, shading and photo-quality detail.
- Best for: colorful logos, mascots, slogans, photo art, gradients — anything that needs many colors.
- Surfaces: works best on smooth ABS plastic; also used on metal with a suitable base coat.
- Feel: flat, smooth, printed — the design sits on the surface.
- Cost: low per piece. Setup is quick, and there’s no plate or mold charge for most designs.
- Watch out for: durability depends on ink quality and curing. A good UV print resists scratching and fading for years; a cheap one peels in months. Salt-spray and UV-fade test reports tell you which you’re getting.
Embossing / Raised Lettering
Embossing forms the design into the material itself — metal lettering raised above the surface, like factory-installed badges. It can be done in the same material as the frame (metal emboss) or with a raised plastic/acrylic emblem attached on top.
- Best for: classic auto-brand logos, monograms, “original equipment” aesthetics, premium gift lines.
- Feel: three-dimensional, tactile — you can feel the logo under your thumb.
- Cost: medium to high. Requires tooling/dies, which is why it’s usually paired with larger order volumes.
- Watch out for: detail limits. Ultra-fine text and gradients don’t survive embossing — the die needs minimum line widths. Your supplier should flag this in the proof stage, not after production.
Laser Engraving
A laser burns the design into the surface — recessed, permanent, and with zero added material. On brushed stainless steel it produces a clean, modern, high-contrast mark.
- Best for: minimalist logos, serial numbers, monograms on stainless or chrome-metal frames.
- Feel: recessed and smooth; color is the natural metal tone (dark mark on bright metal).
- Cost: medium — it’s machine time per piece, so larger areas cost more.
- Watch out for: no color. If your brand lives in a specific color, engraving alone won’t carry it — but it pairs beautifully with a painted or printed accent.
Pad Printing
An older, workhorse method: ink is transferred by a silicone pad onto the surface, one color per pass. Less photorealistic than UV, but extremely cost-effective for simple, solid-color logos on plastic.
- Best for: one- or two-color logos at high volume where price matters more than detail.
- Cost: lowest per piece at volume; plate cost is small.
- Watch out for: gradients and fine detail are limited. If your logo is simple, pad printing may save you real money over UV.
3D Dome (Resin)
A clear, glossy resin dome cured over printed artwork. The print sits under a layer of depth that catches light like a badge on a sports car.
- Best for: badge-style logos where you want a jewelry-like finish; often used on the top tab or center of premium frames.
- Cost: medium — extra material and curing time per piece.
- Watch out for: dome is usually an accent, not a full-frame treatment. Use it where the eye goes first.

How to Choose
- Count your colors. 1–2 solid colors at volume → pad printing. Full color or gradients → UV printing. No color wanted → laser engraving.
- Ask what the product should feel like. Flat and graphic, raised and premium, or recessed and minimal? Feel is a feature customers pay for.
- Let the proof be the tiebreaker. A good supplier can show the same logo in three decoration styles on a real mockup. Compare, then decide — it costs nothing and removes all guesswork.
The Factory Truth
The most expensive mistake we see is a buyer choosing a decoration method from a catalog photo, then discovering in the sample that it looks different in person.
